IT’S LABOR DAY! I’ll probably attend some red, white, and blue themed cookouts this weekend and also do some swimming. I love get-togethers on days like this. For most, Labor Day signifies the end of summer (which can be a little depressing) but it’s a weekend filled with fun, friends, and family. That’s not ALL Labor Day signifies though!
Today is the day to celebrate the American worker and his/her sacrifices and economic/social achievements. It stems from an AWFUL confrontation in Chicago of 1894. Federal marshals and the Army killed 30 Pullman railroad strikers. After the Pullman walkout ended, Congress + President Grover Cleveland passed and signed legislation for the holiday. Labor Day constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country… However, in the U.S.A., Labor Day is viewed as a day of relaxation and parties. It’s also marked the beginning of the National Football League and college football seasons.
So while you’re drinking adult beverages, eating grilled foods, and watching sports this weekend…remember the reason for Labor Day and RELAX!I know I will be 🙂
