hello hello, friends!!! I am always excited to have you but I’m especially excited about today because we are introducing a new series on the blog called Friend-Post Friday!
I love that there are so many creative and talented business owners, especially from my small home town, so my goal is to help showcase that talent throughout these posts. For today, I want to introduce you all to one of my good friends named Jess! She is the owner of The Little Grey Nest based in Zanesville. Jess and her husband create gorgeous signs and various home decor items. I hope you enjoy getting to know a little more about them! Also, you can find TLGN at the Rosecrans Holiday Bazaar, tomorrow (12/3/16) from 9-3. Go buy your friends and family gorgeous handmade signs for Christmas! 🙂
What are three things we should know about you (owner)?
What inspired you to start (your business)?
Initially, I started creating pieces for my own home. I was tired of buying cheaply made home decor items in chain stores. I wanted to create pieces that were handcrafted and made with quality materials. I enjoy creating pieces that are one-of-a-kind. No two are exactly alike. We started by just making items for friends and family. However, through word of mouth, it has evolved into what it is today, which I like to call my “part-time, full-time” job. We could not be more blessed. 🙂
What products do you offer?
We offer handcrafted wood signs and a few other select home decor items.
Do you have a specialty product?
Our most popular item would be our handcrafted last name pallet sign. We hand select pallet pieces and put them together, then customize with family names and established dates. The bulk of our custom orders are wedding gifts. I love this! I get so excited knowing that the sign we are creating in many cases is the first gift they receive with their new name and wedding date joining them together.
What is your favorite item that you’ve created or offer?
Oh dear, too many to choose from! But, if I had to choose, it would have to be the “love grows best in little houses” framed signs. Last year, the first time I created this sign, I had someone come up at a show, see this sign and instantly start crying. They bought it on the spot. Knowing we created a piece that means so much to someone is so fulfilling.
What is your favorite thing about being a business owner?
My favorite thing would have to be working together with my husband and creating these special pieces that will last for years and years to come. We have found something that has brought us even closer. In addition, I love the creativity it brings out in us both. Never did I imagine this hobby of ours would turn into a business, and to know people want our items in their homes is both humbling and exciting for us.
Can we find you on social media?

Anything else we should know about your business?
All of the pieces we create are handcrafted – start to finish. We cut the wood for the sign and frame ourselves, stain it, paint it, customize it, everything. We focus on the fact that every piece is one-of-a-kind. I am an extremely sentimental person, which is why I throughly enjoy doing this. I always love hearing reaction stories from the people who received our sign as a gift. Hearing that we moved someone to tears or our sign helped them get through a hard time means more to me than anything else. We don’t just create signs – we create memories.
